Charles Willmes Wins Asylum Case

Charles Willmes recently successfully represented a client in an asylum matter on a pro bono basis. The client was originally from Somalia. He fled to the United States and sought asylum after numerous threats on his life in his home country. Several of his family members had been killed in the violence that continues to plague Somalia. The client had been placed in removal proceedings and faced deportation. Mr. Willmes presented his case in immigration court. At the conclusion of the case, the court granted the client’s request for asylum.

Tom Merrick and Dave Cottnair recently convinced a general contractor to voluntarily dismiss its claims against our client, a subcontractor.  This complex condominium construction defect lawsuit involved 14 parties and an estimated repair cost in excess of $5,000,000.  Through early contact with counsel for the general contractor, Dave explained why none of the alleged defects were the responsibility of our client.  With the help of our client, we obtained a statement from the Deputy Fire Marshall which further supported our client’s defenses.  Ultimately, our client was dismissed before any depositions were taken.
